865-868MHz How busy in Europe? Can someone measure?

868 mhz noise

HI,

Does anybody know something about the 865-868MHz Band in Europe?
The ERO report (www.ero.dk) says that currently there are Cordless Phones in that band.

Because of a funny ETSI requirement I need at least a couple 200kHz channels that are clean. (Noise/carriers under -96dBm).
Can one of you guys in Europe put an isotropic antenna on a spectrum analyzer and sweep through the band with "max-hold"?
Is there much noise or disturbers above -96dBm?

Almost here in my area 800-900mhz is very noisy with cordless phones and garage door remote controls.

Hi all,

The CT2 Cordless phones are currently in use in a number of EU countries but will fade out since no mfg is still promoting CT2. There seem to exist a very large network in Paris using this CT2 band.
However, the band 865-868 MHz is under current review by CEPT and probably will be re-assigned to RFID with up to 2 W erp power.
ETSI seem to be busy with a standard for RFID in this band.

This is exactly my problem. The new preliminary ETSI spec says that you need to listen before talk. You can only transmit after channel is free (nothing above -96dBm).
Doesn't a Cordless Phone in the same room or floor just swamp everything above -96dBm? It seems as if after CT2 is gone it will become kind of an ISM band. Then you will never be able to get a free channel at -96dBm?

Hi Harkonnen

I think it will not be a problem. As you know CEPT has quite rigourously divided the bands 868-870 in different application areas such as for very narrow band , low & high duty cycle etc. and only so called more unstable devices as SAW based oscillators are allowed into a 300 kHz subband.
As for 865-868 MHz, the only allocation yet is RFID and CT2.
CT2 has the ability to dynamically switch operating freq. when it receives interference. When CT2 is dead completely, I guess it will absolutely be no problem to have the quiet RX levels you are looking for. Furthermore, CT2 is a freq agile system (not at all broadband). As I understand it is not possible anymore for some time to buy new CT2 equipment, so in a few years time it will be dissapeared completely.
