I made a true random number generator from a 74HC595 shift register and a 74HC04 hex inverter. With the addition of a 4538 precision monostable and a few passive components, I had a randomly twirling laser cat toy.

There's an error on the schematic. The hex inverter is 74HC04 not 74HC14.
