50hz switching transistor

50hz is such a low frequency that almost any transistor will work i think

Frequency is not a problem but what are your going to switch,
if it is a led or lcd display (15-100mA) in a low voltage circuit then you can use it.

No problem, just remember to use a base resistor when you drive the transistor to limit the base current.
