i need to make 100KHz square wave with 4060. what are the possible options? like, which frequency crystal oscillator will
be best? and what will the capacitors and resistors value?

Tuning fork resonators which are used for the 32.768Khz frequency, demand far lower drive that a normal crystal.

Therefore, the resistor in series with the crystal (330k) may be required to be a lower value (1k typ)....or perhaps even eliminate it completely.

@chuckey,

100KHz crystal ?

Not hear of one such
@morshed005,
please study the RC based oscillator graphs from the CD4060 datasheet.
as R can be adjusted by having a 1K pot , in between two resistors. Suppose your R value happens to be say22K, you can have 10K on either side and have a 5K trimmer in between. it could be set for a total value of 22K +/- variation.

Then perhaps you need a frequency counter to be sure that you got 100KHz properly..

a RC circuit using a simple 555 will do.
But since 100KHz isn't a frequency for crystal,
maybe, if you dont want to use the old 555 circuit you can use a like DS1077 or just simply write Programmable Oscillator in mouser.
Plus, the counter is really not a bad idea

Nonsense, I have crystals here down to 15KHz and 100KHZ is easily available. However, trying to get a square wave out of a 4060 may be difficult if the crystal is 100KHz. It would be better to use a higher frequency crystal then use the 40460's internal dividers to bring it down to 100KHz. Using the dividers will ensure a clean square wave output. The crystal to use would be (100KHz * 2^X) where X is the number of divider taps chosen in the 4060.

Perhaps we have to deal with practical situations , in and around OP's location and not to think all need be that lucky or that rich component source wise , LoL

i presume that it might be an school practical question not that he could not realize by other means. he would understand how to optimize and use 4060 and also have the skill of deciding the RC values for the frequency under query.
