If you think that is odd, half of Japan is 60 Hz, the other half is 50 Hz.
I visited a plant in Bulgaria a couple of months ago, and they had several Japanese machines. Every single one of them had a transformer that converted the 230V to 200V.
The transformer was a catalog item from a German company. Don't recall the name but a Google search will help.
