I find a keyboard and decent text editor a good way to enter matlab code.

Usually, that kind of conversion is your job, not ours!

xemacs works fine.
entering lines in matlab itself and figuring out the script works fine.

sheikh actually already gave the main steps in post #2. Are you already done reading papers and have a working model? You work faster than me if you just started. :p Matlab is the least of your worries. Get a piece of paper and a pen and scribble down your model. That's usually most of the work. If you have it sufficiently worked out on paper cramming in it matlab or whatever is reasonably trivial. I cheat a bit with "sufficiently worked out", but you get the idea. If you have the idea clear in your head/on paper, matlab implementation should be the easy part.
