Hai,

I just starting my project to construct a device that can be wear to monitor heart beat during exercise.

In my planning it has piezoelectric sensor --> signal conditioning circuit ( amplifier-->filter)-->adc-->
microblaze processor-->zigbee-->display system.

I confuse with the result from the piezoelectric sensor that only can be read using oscilloscope and also it not constant..
How i can construct my amplifier and filter circuit..

hope somebody can help and guide me for this project..

Thanks :)

They currently have a watch style heart rate monitor. There are also finger style heart rate and pulse ox in one unit. check **broken link removed**

found it with the search below

Thanks for your help..

The requirement for my project is to use piezoelectric sensor to detect the heart beat.

in this project h**p://designscience.umich.edu/pdf%20files/APD-2003-08.pdf , they use ECG method to monitor heart beat..
In many research that i made, they use ECG as 2 electrode was attached to the body to get the heart beat reading.
Is ECG concept is the same with piezoelectric transducer?

How i can minimize the noise from the output of PZT?

found an item from search "piezoelectric sensor heart rate monitor" h**p://www.ecrater.com/p/7190199/visual-electronic-stethoscope-ecg-hr at $160

since you can use a pezo as an input and output it sounds possible, though I would be questioning the low frequency of a heartbeat. though they have pezo pedometers now well since your going to amplify the signal, a low pass filter would cut high end noise out op07 was used an a schematic I saw on this board for amp for ECG. on fleabay they have a few ultra low noise opamp to choose from.

Thanks for your help..v

I dont know for detection heartbeat with piezo, but with highbright led this works, throught finger or ear.

yes they have ir led pulse/ox piezo changes electricity to pressure or pressure to electricity, though the pressure is quite a bit higher in frequency, and it can resonate, question i see what length of piezo will give best performance. normally the lower the frequency the larger area required. though with pulses per minuet. I would think an armband similar to mp3 players would give pressure to the skin so counter pressure would feel the pulse. There is a device for the wii dont have one so dont know their sensor technique, though a good place to start. have seen them in walmart, shopko, target stores, but sounds like a way to see how it operates.

My opinion piezo approach is very bad and inaccurate. Better chances are with electronic stethoscope to hear heart beat. Piezo must be very well isolated from back side. I dont see any commercial product based on that, of course I didnt see, maybe exist or someone experimenting with that and developing some project.

There is 1 thing to keep in mind, any amplifier circuit will introduce noise into the signal, that is one main reason doctors use real stethoscopes.

Yes and No. I know lots of doctors who use electronic stetoscope. You have in market for 100-300eur price.

Also like exist noise, like that exist filters. ;-)

hi...
I am also working on a project to measure heartbeat.... I tried a ckt using high intensity led and ldr. i monitored the pulse rate using led.. by when it was fed as the i/p to pic it doesnt picked the signal...can you pls give me the details of your ckt if you have any....

Thanks...
