RS232 computer to computer communication.

Hi!

I want to test if my USB to RS232 converter works.

First, I connect the USB to RS232 converter to a laptop at the USB connector.

Next, I connect the RS232 connector port of the converter to a cross serial cable to another RS232 port of a computer.

Then, I start a software called Putty and run the serial section of the software for the laptop and the computer.
I have set it to 9600, 8 data bit, 1 stop bit, no parity and Flow Control to None.

Am I right to say that if I type something on the laptop and I should see it in Putty in the other computer and vice versa?

Right now, I am not getting output.

Is my setup correct?

A loopback test would work as well:

Loop-back Test Procedure

If the loopback works you know the USB to RS-232 Converter is operational.

Hi!

Do you know how to set the serial port to using MS-DOS to these settings using the mode command:

baud=9600
8 data bit
1 stop bit
no parity
no handshake
