Face detection system using matlab

Hello all,
i am doing my final year project on the face detection system using matlab.
i am using neural network algorithm for this. But i am not able to understand the Gabor Filter for image processing. please help me to understand this.

Take a look on SVM algorithm ( Support Vector Machine ), due it is best recomended to that application, instead Neural Network.
You must be aware that to recognize something, and also to minimize processing consumption, there is needed to extract features from image, and Gabor filter is only one of that options.
