how to use a triac to control 2 240VAC source??

hi, i have problem recently in using triac ....is thr any solution for my problem?
i have 2 source, 240VAC....i want to switch the 2 source around, is it possible to do it??

actually what i wanted to do is to design a switching circuit by using power electronics like SCR, TRIAC , DIAC but i m not reli familiar with it...
so is there a way to guide me?

thx, but the problem is i m not suppose to use relays...sry that i forget to put it on my thread....d reason i m not suppose to use its because of the sparks and it's too simple as what my lecturer told me....^^

the trailing sockets as my output, and control sockets as my inverter source. but got 2 condition i m afraid of...
1st will the 2 source short together?
2nd i can turn on the triac but i cant turn off....

Don´t worry. TRIAC is turned OFF at each end of sinusoud cycle.
Concerning circuit, follows an example ( not in english ) I used successfull.
You can drive even with open colector or push-pull microcontroler output :

Not 100% sure on this but you could use two TRIACs, connect the gate of one to the 240v supply and the gate of the other to the inverter. You could then add something to pull the gate of the one TRIAC low when the other TRIAC is active. Not sure if this can be done directly with power TRIACs, you may need to convert each to DC and use something like a couple of MOC3062 to control the gates.

This is kind of similar to what andre has recommended. One word of caution though, you will be connecting both Neutral's together which might have undesired effects. I would get some advice from an expert on here before commiting to this design.

If it does turn out you need to keep both neutrals seperate I don't think TRIACs will be much help to you, there can be problems if you trying switching both neuteral and live together.

ok...how about this way?

combine 2 thyristor together make it like a triac....and by using a 1-2 decoder to switch it....and using an op-amp to control the voltage...

Hi,

I don't think you can use 2 TRIACs for one output. This will not suit your either the first one or the second one(above). As Ian said you have to use 2 pole relay.
