reverse phase dimmer

Hello

Im building a 1kW reverse phase dimmer (230VAC) using PIC MCU and a power MOSFET. This dimmer is designed for the dimming of ELECTRONIC transformers only. Enclosed is my circuit schematic.

Details of the power MOSFET (Q) in use are as follows....

# Manufacturer: INFINEON
# Manufacturer Part No: IPP60R099CPA
# Transistor Polarity: N - Channel
# Voltage, Vds Typ: 600V
# Current, Id Cont: 31A

The inductor and capacitor combination in the schematic is an RFI filter.

I simply wish to have my complete schematic cross checked for any mistakes so that the circuit can work as a reverse phase dimmer. Please can someone go through my schematic and kindly suggest any improvements that might be required. If there is any mistake, then please also point out and suggest the necessary fix.

Thank you
Haseeb

Don't think that you want to connect the gate to +15V continuously.

After correcting this, you may want to check RB1 CTR. It would need about 400% with the present resistor dimensioning.

Re: reverse phase dimmer

Hello

Im not too sure what you mean when you say.....

RB1 would need about 400% with the present resistor dimensioning.

RB1 is the port pin the PIC .... not a resistor.

Also please see my new diagram enclosed. I now have complete isolation with PIC and the 230VDC....the grounds are not common and the 15V regulator IC is gone and placed instead a 15V zener.

Any suggestions on improvements from anyone are a welcome because I need help badly....

Thank you
Haseeb

Re: reverse phase dimmer

Hello Haseeb

well long time after .. do you finalize this schematic ?
do you improve it ?
is it working as expected, in "reverse mode" ?

thanks, regards
phil
