I simulated a 16QAM system and got the simulation results of BER(Bit Error rate) and SER(Symbol Error rate). I have to compare BER and SER of my simulation results with the theoretical BER and SER. The problem is I have to find out Eb for that. How do I do this. What do I consider my Eb as????
I can do Eb(average) = ES(average)/4
But for this I need Es(average)....Thanks....
The average power is equal to the average power of your signal points in 16-QAM. Say, if your I and Q have the scale of 1 and 3 for 16-QAM. Then, the average power is 10. If you are using normalized 16-QAM modulation , then the average power is 1. Hope this helps.
In most of the cases for 16 QAM to keep mean zero you consider symbol set {-15 -13 -11 ......11 13 15}. Your average signal energy is 2*{square(15)+square(13)+....+square(1)}/16 . Now you can adjust your noise power according SNR = av. energy / av. noise power.
