The usual microstrip rat-race circuit constitus with tree adjacent sections are each lamda/4 , wile the fourth section is 3*lamda/4 .

How to find W (strip width ) of the four sections .?

Re: Rat-race Design

Hi,

Check the link below. There is an on-line simulator too.

Re: Rat-race Design

If z0 is the impedence at the four ports, the ring has an impedence of sqrt(2)*z0

Re: Rat-race Design

Thank you has you, I know that the ring has an impedence of sqrt(2)*z0.
I sought the width of the stip , according to the site, the study of the width it is the same one as a line microstrip..

the site it is well especially the part java, one finds calculations sought. :D :D :D

Re: Rat-race Design

I need an 0-180 degrees hybrid component from 6 to 18 GHz..

It´s vrey important for me. Can anyone help me?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Rat-race Design

Hi,

I don't really think you can make it with hybrid coupler (branch line or rate race). I think you should use some wideband balun and make your circuit around it.

These are two papers to give you the hint

Rat-race Design

thanks flyhigh these papers are so good in UB Baluns.
are you have the paper of 100:1 Baluns? in this paper the author claim the 100:1 band width with coaxial balun!

these links are good!

Rat-race Design

SAJ25 Do u still have the link for the above? It seems broken.

Rat-race Design

Hi max232
The width will depend on Impedance.
Let us assume I have Rogers substrate, with Er =2.3 & h=31 mil
Usually, for Rat Race, The Input is 50 Ohm so width is 2.2mm
& width of ring will be almost equal to 1.8 mm (impedance 70 Ohm)

They are simple microstrip calculations.

Hi Lupin
If you have ADS, use DG component(template) for Hybrid design.
It will be comparitively much easier.
Also Rate Race can be designed in ADS using template.

hi shinka
i used those links and they both are correct

Re: Rat-race Design

Hi all,
i am working at Rat-race coupler and i have a problem in calculation raduis of the ring in ADS design, i saw that it should be squre(2)Zo but i think it's not correct!!!
i attached the figure of design

Re: Rat-race Design

Hello people, I need to design a rat-race in C (5.03 GHz) band.

What technology do you suggest in terms of losses and weight? Stripline, WG or coaxial line?

Thanks for your support.
