adc leakage current

Hello,

Could anybody please explain what is the Injection current and the leakage current in an ADC. how does it related to the accuracy and performance of an ADC..

Thanx,

Joby

Hi,
Going by a wild guess, if an ADC uses a sample and hold capacitor, I would expect the leakage current as the leakage of the capacitor, which will reduce the voltage sampled across the cap. In the same context I would expect the surface leakage and other stray resistive/ capacitive couplings might inject a current from neighbouring supplies/signals to the sample holding capacitor, which inturn will modify the sample value.

If you think the answer is not applicable in your context, please give a reference to your context.

hallo Laktronics,

Thanks for your reply.. I got a differnt answer for the question.. In my case there are inbuilt protection diodes in the ADC and it can conduct upto ±1mA. and I gusess this is called the injection current. And the current consumed by the ADC itself is called the leakage current (100nA-300nA).

Please correct me if I am wrong..

With Regards,

Joby Abraham
