Hello,

I am trying to buy a cheap 100MHz oscilloscope....but the cheaper ones are all 6-14 days delivery to UK, and i cant take 6-14 days off work to wait for the scope to come...neither can my girlfreind.

How do i buy a cheap 100MHz oscilloscope that enables me to go and pick it up, or which delivers in a few days?

Amazon.com even refused to deliver to my house address in cambridge uk.

Why does Amazon refuse to deliver to your home address? After all the UK is hardly a third world country.

I live out in the middle of nowhere and they deliver to my home in two days?

What model of scopes are you considering?

There are usually several sellers on eBay which offer many of the latest models.

I know a few distributors, if you can give an idea of what your look for, I maybe able to suggest one of them.

CPC, Farnell, Rapid and RS can all deliver next day. What specifically are you looking for? I have an Owon which I got for my second 'scope for taking away and got it from Rapid. Owon direct might be worth a look **broken link removed** or maybe CPC **broken link removed**

Keith.

Also, you could maybe give Ron Nelson a ring http://www.britesa.co.uk/ or try SJ Electronics http://www.britesa.co.uk/

What do you think of the SDS7102 now that you had it for a while?

I was considering the purchase of that exact model for field work with the optional battery pack.

I especially like the deep memory feature. Is that as handy as it sounds?

I bought the 60MHz version and haven't used it a lot - I bought it for travelling and battery power. I ran it side by side with my Yokogawa for a few days before I went away relying on it and was happy that it would do what I want. Customers are impressed due to the big screen. My Yokogawa cost 20x as much but only has a 5" VGA but then it is 10 years old now.

The Owon software is not bug free, but it works well enough and comes with some passable software to connect it to a PC. I paid <£300 for the 60MHz from Rapid and certainly can't complain.

Thanks,

Keith, the scopes in your link are 100MHz but ~450£ plus....i saw some USA ones for ~£200.

The britesa site, well i couldnt see any stock on it, it just said to ring them, so i dont know if its like a middel man or not.

Regarding ebay, i would be nervous of buying a 100mhz scope from ebay...it might be returned stock or second hand, or damaged in some way?

I don't think you are going to get a decent 100MHz 'scope for £200 except perhaps second hand. The best buy I could find was the SDS6062 from Rapid at £295 but that is 60MHz. The Rigol ones are £300 for 100MHz but personally I wouldn't buy a 'scope with a QVGA screen. I looked at a Rohde & Schwarz spectrum analyser several years ago and it had a QVGA screen and it looked terrible (and that cost £4500).

What are the £200 USA ones you have found?

I wasn't suggesting buy a second hand unit, many of the midsized retailers now sell on eBay, it's just another method of advertising.

Many of the Chinese manufactures of these units seem to sell them direct or through a relative, on eBay.

At one time Rigol manufactured many of the lower priced HP/Agilent scopes, whether that is still the case I'm not sure.

Rigol still get largely positive reviews of their scopes.

100MHz Digital Storage Oscilloscope - ADS1102C

Electronix Express

I also believe some of the Rigol, ATTEN and Instek models are the same, marketed under different names, they even use the same numbering scheme.

Rigol DS1102E
ATTEN ADS1102C
Instek GDS1102U

@Keith

The only complaint I have heard regarding the Owon line was the buggy software. However, most, as well as you, have indicated in spite of the bugs it is still manageable.

And the larger screen, with my eye sight, is certainly a plus.

Yes, I like the big screen. The deep memory works OK, as I remember. I have almost always had deep memory 'scopes and wouldn't buy anything else. The bugs don't stop you using the oscilloscope but would be good if they fixed them. Given the price my expectations weren't high so I am pleased with it.
