What is the best way to get distance traveled by a car? Is it a good idea to tap into my abs wheel sensor for distance traveled? I think the sensor produces around 30 pulses per wheel revolution. I can just measure the wheel circumference and then use it to see when my car has reached 1/4 mile.

Any other ideas for getting distance traveled?

my car has a vss sensor or vehical speed sensor. It makes a 5v pulse every wheel revolution.

How would I go about making a pulse counter using mcu that could count high number of pulses (many wheel revolutions for .25 mile). I'd also would like it to count to 3000 miles.
