12-O-12 transformer functioning

12-0-12 is just two 12V windings joined together at one end, you could think of it as a single 24V winding with a connection in the middle.

It has many uses but the primary one is in low voltage power supplies where full wave rectification can be achieved with two rectifiers instead of the four needed in a bridge circuit. They are sometimes used in crude inverters where switching the DC current from one winding to the other simulates AC.

this may help.a 12.0.12 is a center tapped transformer.

so can i use the normal step down(120v ac t0 12v ac) centered tapped transformer in my inverter circuit 120ac to((+some circuit) dc? ( i already have a circuit digram )or its some specially design transformer for inverter?

it depends on the load that you are using.. the transformer can be of 12.0.12, 1A/ 2A for driving small loads. here the design calls for a 1A/2A transformer. for higher loads, you must add more transistors.
 

if you are new in making an inverter, begin with the schematic posted and then make higher load capable designs.
for higher loads just replace this in place of the transistors 3055

yar i have a bit difficulty in understanding ur diagram. i just want to lit an energy saver ( less than 60 Watt). will then (as i mentioned previously) work?
 

It will work although it is not very efficient. Expect to get less than 220V out and do not use it when the load is frequency sensitive as it will not be stable enough. The circuit is basically a multivibrator driving power transistors. For simply driving a lamp it should be OK though.

will work, if the transformer is the problem, a 12.0.12 1A-2A transformer will do the job.

what u mean by entry lever cct. wana say it too easy?:) its an assignment by our instructor.
i m not an electrical engineer. but power electronics my passion and i love to know more and more abt this field.

it's too easy ..there are advanced designs (like that calculate itself the parameters for necessary firing of the transistors) using uCs, etc
this is only an entry level circuit to the world of inverters!

Want to design the transformer the send me ur requirement like what amps, volt and wattage I will send u the data .
For the time basic data for 5 amps 220 to 12V-0V-12V. u need an 2inch X 2inch bobbin. For the 220v use 20SWG and 440 turns, and for 12v use 14SWG and 24 turns then again wire 14SWG and 24 turns.
Use “E” “I” soft iron core .u can get all these components easily in Pakistan. need any help?
