i have problem with my acer aspire 4740 laptop..
i buy it with free dos..
then i install with windows 7 ultimate..

the problem is, every time i use it, it will automatically OFF (not shutdown properly) every 2 hours.
someone have idea why it happen??

maybe it's due to overheating or faulty Ram. You need to check it to make sure about the components.
It's highly recommended to put it on stress by Prime95,BurnInTest,etc applications while checking the CPU temp

Try to open it and clean the ventilator and the processor. Dust heats the processor that's why your laptop shut down.

what do u mean by not shutting down properly? do u mean a cold shutdown?
do u run any specific application? I mean if it is processing at the instant of this problem? the best approach is to put the cpu temp under control by the related apps.
check if it goes further than 40 degrees or not? It should be less than 50 degrees at max in the most severe case

yes ,but first install hardware monitor and see temperature of the CPU and HDD

then you'd better change automatically being restart option from this path:
System properties --> Advanced system settings --> "Settings" botton from Start up and recovery
remove the tick from Automatically restart
hey, are you testing your components with the apps I mentioned or not?
use this app to test your Ram. MemTest
if the rams were not faulty, write the code in the blue page which will appear instead of restarting. I mean the code in front of STOP 0X................

When Windows is instaling evriting go's by memory,a error -big problem, try live CD linux, there is a mem test-ubuntu live, kubuntu live ,slak live or else.
Now i remember that I hawe a same problem with IBM t30,solved -RAM changed

Hi,
you may be check your power setting option it's enable standby or hibernation .or check your cooling fan.

If the Laptop is old the thermal past between the processor and heat sink may have dried up. Try cleaning and replacing. Also check the temperature sensor, it may be set too low (due to age).

Check your POWER PROPERTIES.

For power properties go to
START-->Control Panel -->Power Properties

I have the laptop can you tell me if two OS are install then memory either will be shared or separately distributed weather their is any effect on the speed of processing.
please reply soon.............

If you install same OS but with different versions(e.g. Windows XP & Windows 7) then Hard drive memory will be shared. If you install different OS (e.g. Windows XP & Linux) then Hard drive memory will be distributed.

The speed of processing does not affect by two OS installations, because at a time only One OS in running condition.

heat is biggest possibilities of your problem.

take it to technician then if you dont know much

Heat may damaged your motherboard, Be careful.

finally...i know what the problem is...
my win7 was expired..after i reinstall windows n register it properly..
there is no problem anymore.."case is close"
tanx a lots guys for help..

check whether your os is trial or activated
