I think u first need to learn the counters, then design the counter which counts from 0 to 59 and when 60 occus ur this counter should be reset and the minutes counter should be increamented by one, the minutes counter should also be reseted on 60 and hence increase one in hours counter....

Okay start with a simple oscillator ckt as CLOCK input which u may find at different sites, using 555 Timer, whose frequency u can set as 1 Hz by changing its R & C values...

u can learn the basics of mc just google it u can get many links....
and to prgm the pic u need to have the "programmer" start with either 8051 or pic...

s that programing concept only i am dont know am studying about 8051 in my Microprocessor and microcontroller paper but not in a practical knowledge wise friend???
