Hello All,

I would like to try the Option "Place from File" in Altium for component Placement. Could anyone please let me know how can i generate *.PIK file for the purpose.

Thanks In Advance.

Gunjan

As far as I remember *.PIK files are pick and place files only.
You can try one thing export the pick and place file from altium and make some changes in the location of the compnents and try importing it back.

Ricky

Typically the Pick & Place machines require a txt file with XY coordinates of each reference designator on your design.

In Altium ,
select your PCB design
File -> Assembly Outputs -> Generate Pick & Place

Take a look at your Project Outputs directory in the your Project to find the txt file.

KG,
The pick and place file is a text file that is saved as a .txt by default. Generate this as you would a normal pick and place file:
goto: File, assembly outputs, generates pick and place files. Done

You can rename this *.txt file to *.pik to get desired file.
The .PIK file is pretty useful when you would like to copy an existing placement.

goto: tools, component placement, place from file.
Browse for .PIK file and let it rip.

Interesting feature! Trying to get Altium to copy an 126 LED arrangement from a schematic (which it doesn't), so a spreadsheet with coordinates did the job... sorta. I'm only getting 1/2 the elements moved (every 2nd one). Then if I sort out the unmoved ones and run it again, only half of those are moved! Gah!

Any ideas?

you can generate BOM with XY coordinates. it is more helpful for production i think.
