Hello all,

As i dont have pc. I want to build USB programmer for pic controllers. I mostly use PIC 16F series. Please give suggestions for every kind of programmer like with or without ft232 chip, with or without other pic controller which may be needed to be programmed to run programmer.

Thank You.

Your question seem stoo confusing. You say you need a circuit with or without FT232, and then you say you also prefer a programmer with or without the firware chip. Ok..after all these, as i remember reading your post, you have mentioned you dont have a PC. so what else will you do without it?

Re: PIC usb programmer

I was saying that. I have laptop not pc. And in laptop i don't have serial port so need to build usb programmer. and in my area it takes 8-10 days to get the firmware chip or ft232 chip. so need better option..

Re: PIC usb programmer

Hi,

For a diy usb programmer the Pickit2 Lite as featured many times in this forum is the one to go for.

There is a known potential problem when using any usb programmer on a laptop in that it can fail to program properly, due to poor usb power lines.
Should this happen, it is usually cured by using a powered usb hub.

Re: PIC usb programmer

there are few ways for your requirements like GTP usb programmer which is easy and good.

Another is pickit2, pickit3. You can find schematics for these in this forum. But little bit hard to build. Advantage is pickit supports almost all 5V pic ics whereas pickit3 also supports 3.3v PICs.

So you have to look that for which PIC you are going to make this programmer.

www.kitsrus.com gives good programmers. Check it out..

some links of this forum.

Let me know if any problems or progress.

Hi,

Nikunj Tanna

Not quite true -

A genuine Microchip Pickit2 will program 5 and 3.3v chips and is still considered by many a much better buy than the Pickit3

A Diy Pickit2 Lite only can only supply power to the target device at 5v, if wanting to program a 3.3v device you simply power the device with 3.3v and then connect it to the PicKit2 Lite which will program it fine - have programmed many 16Fs, 18Fs and 24FJs at 5 and 3.3v without problems

Re: PIC usb programmer

Thanks a lot all of you.

I will make my own and will tell you the results very soon..

PIC usb programmer

Pickit 2lite works well for your USB need but it requires the Firmware chip to be programmed. On the other hand, JDM works well only for serial port and not with USB or with USB-serial converter. I recomend you to go with Pickit2 lite where you may get help of some friend who has a serial port and construct easy to make JDM programmer which may be used for programming the firmware chip.
Cheers

pls kindly help with pdf books on principle of usb programmer and i need the working circuit. thanks and am waiting 4 ur reply

See this in semi SMD variant with EEPROM which can contain firmware for programming to uC without PC :
