+12V from +60VDC? How to Do it?

I need to derive a +12VDC @ 1.5 Amps.

My input is between 40VDC to 60VDC. I am looking for info about some switching regulator circuit plus info.

LM2576 was the first choice, but the HV version is not available here.

Please suggest some other options.

use a pwm controller / regulator + flyback.

fairchild has tons of such devices.

Hai,
Use simple series regulator using high volatge transistor to drop down the volatge. Then force this voltage into proper 12 volts regulator like LM series.

Will this method cause much power wastage and heat generation? I have to use this to monitor the voltage level from a battery pack. So wastage to be avoided if possible!

Please give little more details.

Can you get the HV version of LM317 (LM317HV)? It can be configured as switching regulator as shown in the datasheet. Also, the bonus in the app example is higher current handling capability with external driving element.

Hello!

The LM317 seems to be a plain linear regulator, otherwise there would be at
least one coil in the typical applications. In this case, if you
drop the voltage from 60 to 12, you will mostly generate heat.

Why not directly searching in Digikey products?

If you search for PWM voltage regulators, you can set all the selection conditions
you want.

Tanks for the info. I didn't know it could be used a switching device. I'll spend
some time to understand how it works!
