i need some suggections for a small project to be implemented in MATLAB...
 

Use bottom up design. Write m files for each function you would like to use. Call them one by one.

What is the project on? You need to post more information.
1) Audio/Image?
2) Approximate memory.
3) UI?
4) PC information.
5) Experience.

Without this you get only general answers that may not be suitable to you. You have to ask your questions properly.

If you need hints on speeding up one is
Initialize with zeros allyour arrays to begin with. No run timeallocation. Higher rate of execution.

if the project is on signal processing of random signals/stochastic processes or in wireless communications, then what topics would u people recommend... pls let me know...

I recommend you a digital wirelles communication simulator with all the step for do it, using Matlab and simulink. Other suggestion can be a vector quantizer for audio processing.
