Switching AC from MCU

Hi
I have made a system that will switch my hot water cylinder on and off at certain times of the day. The MCU part is complete, what I now need is to determine what components are the best to switch the hot water cylinder(230V, 50Hz, 20A) on and off from the MCU. I know a solid state relay will work, but it seems a bit expensive. Please advise

Thank You for any help or suggestions

Re: Switching AC from MCU

Solid state relay is an ideal solution, but you can "make" one just by using a triac and "zero-crossing" optocoupler ..
Even a traic with "non-zero-crossing" optocoupler is a better option than any standard relay ..
