Why do we go for both horizontal and vertical routing ? why not only Horizontal ?? what kind of problem do we get if we go for only horizontal routing?

If you use only horizontal routing. Your parasitics cap between wires of different metal layers increase. Also, while fabrication, a horizontal only routing could increase the probability of metals in adjacent layers getting shorted at some point.

It is not possible to connect two points by a horizontal line always.
