hello forum !
i have bought an led matrix 8x8 display but couldn't find its datasheet how much current should be supplied to it i tested few leds by supplying 5v through 220ohm resistor they have enough brightness.according to this arrangement i am supplying 22mA to led is it ok ?or what should be prefereable current
thanks

led matrix display

22mA should be fine, you'll need it bright because it'll dim when you start that 1:8 mux.

Re: led matrix display

again the brightness will affect by the speed of scanning ,more fast you will get less bright display , slow scanning more brightness !

you can first check the display with more than 220E ok , after this according to the level of brightness adjust it .

Re: led matrix display

You can actually use the peak current value of the LEDs if you use MUXing to get more brightness.

The following is from a Cree LED abmer color datasheet : **broken link removed**
Note:
1. For long term performance the drive currents between 10mA and 30mA are recommended. Please contact CREE
sales representative for more information on recommended drive conditions.
2. Pulse width ≤0.1 msec, duty ≤1/10.

Read the specs there. The peak fwd current is 200mA and note 2 above provides the insight onto the driving waveform.
