how to see waveform in modelsim

how can i see the variables of a design in the waveform window in modelsim??

thanks,
salma

modelsim view variable

Well what is the probelm there? You can browse to the 'process' of which you want to see variables, and them add them on to the waveform.
Well you can also use the add wave commmand as shown below
add wave {sim:/gut_top/bench/uut/wuut/\MainSM.bdcache_i.BufferDescCacheReg_reg_0__VALID_\Q}

modelsim log process variables

ok thanks a lot...

so they're exactly like signals...but i had to choose add to wave not add all signals to wave (since they're not signals ;) )

another way also is to see them in the locals window :)

another question: if i want to simulate two designs together; a complete design along with one of its components..do i have to give only inputs to the complete design and it'll simulate the component anyway accordingly...or should i give also inputs to the component ??!!

thanks in advance,
salma

view variables in modelsim merged processes

yes you can. compile and simulate your top level design. in wave windows you can add signals of all or a particular component.

how to see wave form in model sim

well...i was asking because i had the processes of my design merged together for some reasons..!! and so i couldn't add the variables just by choosing the process and right clicking...etc etc..they weren't added...only the signals were :) but i tried it on another design with one process only and it worked fine...

thank you,
salma
