I try to design a symmetrical microstrip patch array antenna with symmetry in the x and y axis. The problem is the simulation results for all my different tries (50) produce a main lobe(Theta =0 ,Phi =0) gain of -198db.

Now,the reason i originally decided to create this structure is because i thought that having a symmetrical patch array antenna results in the main lobe(theta =0,Phi =0) being always bigger than the secondary lobes.

The procedure i follow is desing a 4x4 array with some patches on and some off and then create the symmetry to the x,y axis.

My question is if i am missing something here and how can i proceed to the desing of this structure.

Hello,

but have you a deep null instead of the peak, or you have -198 dB every where ?

in the first case you are providing excitatins out of phase (or by 0° 180° in the excitaation or kept 0° for all the batch but rotation them mechanically of 180), in the second case or you ahve not fed at all the patches or you have an exagerated mismatch !

Anyway provida us a bitmap of array with feeding points end the excitations to help you better.

bye.

You were right.

I was providing wrong excitations.Due to the symmetry the excitations were also mirrored to another point in the patches.

thanks
