hi everyone.........

(1) What are the specifications provided by a circuit design engineer to a layout engineer to draw the layout of passive elements (R, L and C)???

(2) For suppose to draw the layout of resistor (R), he will provide length(L), width(W) and type of the resistor to be drawn (polyres or diffusion res ). Like that what are the specifications provided to draw layout of L and C? Is he specifies the layers to be used before(For example metals to be used to form MIM capcitance)?

(3) What is meant by inner radius of the inductor?? (To draw the layout of inductor, inner radius significance)

If any material or screen shots are there, please upload. It will be helpful.
Thanking you,
santhosh

I think the most effective way is directly communicate with each other.
Say the circuit designer could offer the function and requirement of the element, then the layout guys will figure it out properity.

As for Capacitance,I prefer to use the fixed layout provided by foundry.

I don't have much idea about inductor...some RF guys need to help.
Coming to Capacitor, In general cad guys will prepare the pcells or they will provide device information which is from foundry itself. In that device info u will be having all the capacitences b/w layers for Square micron. By using that u can calculate how much width and lenghts do u need and how many metal layers u need for fitting it in the area.

If already pcells are there no issue. Designer will directly give u the width and lenghts of the device and the model, U can just instantiate it....:D

If any more info is needed I can help u...in this regard. Thank You.
