What is the equalization used for in digital communication?

in digital communication where we are doing equalization?

pre equalisation is done at the transmitter section and post equalisation is done at the receiver section.

Hi Friend,

We need equilisation because,

* To reduce the higher order harmonics.
* To make the original signal faithful to the next block of the system.
* Pre-equalisation is done at the transmission end so that the signal sent is of the correct specification that the reciever needs.
* Post-equalisation is done at the reciever end so that the signal recieved is of correct specifications.

Hi Friend,
Detection is a process of seperatig the original message signal from the carrier signal.

But this is allowed for a certain bandwidth & amplitude only considering the power consumption and other factors of the recieving circuit.

So, Demodulation occurs first to limit the bandwidth and makes it faithfull for the Detector to perform its operation.

where challel distortion is more, then equalization is generally done in receiving side..another application area of equaliztion is in side the video signal transmission through cable television.

Equalization is achieved to reduce the effects of the chanel distortion. channel distortion cause intersymbol interference (ISI) which can be removed by an equalizer.
 

what are the types of equalization in Digital Communication?
where can i find a detail note of this..basics and application point of view..
please help.
