Displaying degree character in the LCD...

degree symbol in lcd

Hi all,
I guess, I am posting a very stupid question. I am making a digital thermometer but not able to display the 'degree' character on the LCD, that is the small circle-like character at the top

I consulted the ascii chart and found that 249 seems to be ascii code. However, when I tried to display it, I am only getting a junk character on the display.

My other characters are getting displayed properly, so I know that the code or the circuit for displaying 'normal' characters is not flawed.

Do I need to do something exotic like play with the CG RAM for this?
Please help me. I know this might sound silly, but if you already have done this before then it will just be 2 mins to reply to this message!

lcd optrex

as i am watching the datasheet for optrex LCD now i can see the character you need , its code is "11011111" or "DF" in hex format.
check and see if it solves your problem or not.

P.S. Just one question, just how did know about it?? From the ASCII chart this character, 0xDF looks like a small rectangle, I could have never guessed that it would
look like a 'degree' character on the LCD!!

as i said i get it from the datasheet of optrex LCD , there are some differences between the codes for miscellaneous charcter in lcd and ascii codes.
i recommend you using of the codes which are provided in the datasheet of lcd instead of ascii table for pc's.

Well, I just got an LCD from the local shop here. It is definitely based on the HD44780. So I shall look up the data sheet for HD44780.
