What is meant by software defined radio??

Re: software defined radio

By software radio we mean that a modulator, Coder, and etc. is developed on a programmable chip. So we can change the modulation with only changing the code on the chip and there is no need to change the hardware.

Re: software defined radio

SDR is a concept. It imply that the entire transceiver functionality can be integrated as a software model ad ported onto the desired platform. This means if we have a sufficiently powerful PC, it will be possible to implement any software standard on the same.

software defined radio

In SDR, all basic processing is done on digital hardware, including modulation/demodulation (AM/PM/FM)... The output of the digital unit, is usually an N-bit word, which represents the waveform sample, which feeds a DAC and Power amp. for transmit....

In Rx. side, ADC digitizes the signal as close as possible to the antenna... Digitization at RF is very tough... So IF digitization is usually carried out... Then baseband demodulation is carried out...
