Hi All,

What are the Advantages and Disadvantages of Gated Clocks.

Also tell me the application of Gated Clocks

digital clock advantage

In short,

Advantage: save power

Disadvantage: difficult to manage the timing during synthesis and STA . Besides, if something wrong, it's also hard to debug :(

It is used to turn off the flops when we don't need.

I have no idea about disadvantages of Gated clock.

what are the disadvantages of a digital clock

Gated clock - Difficult to verify in GLS ,
Physical perspective - more insertion delay for clock tree
Inreases area , complicates timing closure with all the clock gating checks.... (just a lil bit)

Dis Advantage: hard to implement CTS . But tools are now capable do it

Advantage: use d to decrease the Dynamic Power consumption

Yes it's advantage is to reduce the consumed dynamic power. However the advantage is the complexity of implementations (the logic of gating controler) as well as the additional area taken by this controller.
