Hi Guys,

I have worked on verification of ASICs for 6 months and now I moved to a small company which work on FPGAs. And Iam working for FPGAs Verification. Will it affect my career in any way, if I want to switch for ASICs verification or design or anything with ASICs in future? Will it make any difference?

Please suggest me. I need your help badly.

Thanks in advance.

Re: ASIC or FPGA

hi,
for verification it wont effect much..... but the thing is when you want to move towards design it will matters a lot..........it drag your carrier more thats it. the company people wont allow you to do asic design..............

Re: ASIC or FPGA

Don't worry. Stay where ever you are and continue to work hard in the field. I think verification is same either it is ASIC or FPGA

ASIC or FPGA

In my opinion it definitely matters. ASIC verification needs to be really thorough as you dont have a chance to revert the ASIC code. Once gone is gone. Each mistake can cost you a million dollars.
Secondly, ASICs are generally bigger in size. So big designs, larger frequencies, etc.
Thirdly, bringing up of an ASIC is also a nice experience. The debugging is really a tough task and the preparation needs to be really thorough.
ASIC verification engineers are more in demand than that of FPGA verification enggs :)

Re: ASIC or FPGA

ASIC verification is not completely diffrent than FPGA verification, though ASIC verfication engineers are always in demand.. Because of its complexity.

Thanks

Re: ASIC or FPGA

i don't think it would make a huge difference in your career to switch between ASIC and FPGA verification from time to time...

what do you do differently anyway, aren't the concepts almost the same and you just use different tools or are there any major changes in the steps you do???
