vehicle detection build

I need to implement a vehicle detection using Induction loop.
My primary plan is to make a LC oscillator .
when vehicle reach coil then inductance will go high and frequency of the oscillator will change.
then using mircocontroller detect the frequency change and detect the vehicle!

Is this method is ok!!

iF any one had build a Induction loop based vehicle detector,Please share the experience!!!

Guide me!!

Thanks

vehicle detection mat

that is a good idea.... the one main problem related to it is the EMI... if you can provide proper EMI sheilding to the inductor then the circuit would be just fine....

because things like starting of a vehicle using kickstart has a very high voltage spike and is wideband and this can send a different frequency signal with high enough voltage to trigger your circuit.... so you would be needing highly narrowbanded filters and good EMI sheilding....

vehicle detection loop how to do

More reliable results, as far as detecting vehicles is concerned, can be achieved with fixed-frequency generator and the vehicle detection coil working as part of LC parallel filter .. see attached picture ..

vehicle detection circuit

I want know more about coil , can have just about 1foot diameter coil instead of 6 foot one in this detection system.
As i designing mobile system better to have a smaller one like a mat where u can put it on the road

That Circuit is from My Website.

Yes you can make a One Foot Coil, But it will Require More Turns of wire to get a reasonable inductance value.

And Where Ever you Place it is OK, But you need to Adjust the Circuit for Each Location for best detection.
