ADIT vs Hsim vs Starsim vs Nanosim ..

adit run fast than hspice / eldo . smartspice
but hsim vs adit vs nanosim(powermill) which tool is better on whole chip simulation
more fast & more accuracy .

I have used ADiT and ELDO. ADiT is faster than ELDO, but has lot of integration issues . ADiT was bought over by Mentor Graphics and they have tried to incorporate their features such as wavefile format, alter simulations etc. But in the process, there are many features that do not work properly.
For example when you run monte carlo simulations, there is no way of finding out which parameter was changed during each iteration.
On the whole it is very quick and pretty accurate but without all the features of ELDO.

1. hsim need user to set many options to get the correct simulation, especially on those ckt contained inductor, high frequency ckt, high accuracy ckt.
if u don't set the correct options, u will get a un-expected result.
whereas adit need less settings, usually ".options accurate", will get correct simulation. and the speed of adit is faster than hsim about several times at some pure analog ckt. simulation.
2. nanosim has better performance than adit when ur ckt. contain analgo ckt and lots of digital ckt or memory ckt. (> 1K SRAM). But it has the same drawback as hsim, as stated in previously.
 

adit wdb file problem

ADiT works better when the circuit has lots of digital circuitry. Accuracy in case of stringent analog circuits is also not bad!
But I have come across issues with it on slow machines. The waveform file "file.wdb" is not written properly on slower machines. Probably their java script buffer overflow occurs and hence there is loss of data.
But if conditions are good, ADiT works wonders... Hopefully Mentor will be able to enable all the amazing features that ELDO has, very soon..

Yes .. we use adit tool ..

by the way .. have adit new dos version ?
as I know , mentor only provide Linux platform ..

Mentor provides version of Adit on
solaris and linux for 32 and 64 bits.

How about spectre compare about the above tools?
 

adit pll simulation best setting

Hi,

Hope every one is clear about true spice and fast spice.

There will be difference in results between these 2 class of tools and the later ones are mostly used for full chip simulation with huge performance(approx. > 80X) against true spice.

it is acceptable to have a accuracy difference around 10% between true and fast spice.

Comparing true spice vs fast spice is not apple 2 apple comparison since their architecture is different

Nanosim and Hsim does a pretty good job here

I ever use nanosim , powermill , hsim , aditspice ..
for analog design fast spice ..evercad aditspice is more accuracy (not detail setting )

but each fast-spice can run accuracy , nanosim even powermill can run spice like mode .will more accuracy but will very slow .and some tool need setting many many item . for analog designer , I just want speed up my simulation time .
hsim is for memory sim is very good (use 2 pass , first reduce some circuit) , other fast-spice also do partition circuit for speed up simulation time .
but nanosim is poor tool for me ..
by the way , cadence also have ultrasim fast-spice

sorry andy... but i tend to disagree...
analog simulation for circuits usually requires very high accuracy at least at the module level. When integrated with lot of digital blocks, speed may be the main issue... but at least I am not entirely in comfort zone if I use a fast simulator even at the module level...
 

Hsim is better.
This tool provide more capability to trade-off speed and accuracy on different blocks. But you must know your chip well in order to set the options properly.
ADit doen't provide this capability. You don't know exactly how the tool group/partition the circuirt. But for individual blocks like PLL or ADC, ADit is good and easy to use for quick check!
 

People buy a CAD tood depend on What are the nature of their the design, their expertise, their budget. It's not appropriate to say that this tool is better that other tools.
 
Adit is a good fast simulator but it is yet to mature.
