can anyone say me the major difference b/w asic, fpga n soc flows.
plz give gud materials on fpgn and asic flows.

thanks

difference between ASIC/FPGA is ASIC need to manufact mask, but the latter need not

SOC contain software, but ASIC/FPGA doesn't

the main difference between ASIC(application specific integrated circuit) and FPGA(field programmable gate array) is that FPGA has a lot of programmable arrays of fuses and hence if what we have designed then we can erase it and reprogram it... this is not possible in ASIC which is application specific....

that is why ASIC based concerns are very careful because once something goes wrong their whole investment gets wasted....

thank u 4 ur msgs

FPGA - Logic can be re-programmed
ASIC - Application specific
Soc- System on chip, complete system on a singlke chip with processor, peripherals and software

Fpga is used for prototyping of ASIC !!

SOC is superset of Asic !!

Asic is application specific and cannot be re-programed after production. FPGA can be re-program many many times.

Hi all,
If we implement some design in FPGA as well as ASIC. The basic difference we generally find is performance, the performance of ASIC is high. The only advantages with fpga is reprogramability, fast implementation.

An Soc can be implemented both in the ASIC as well as the FPGA flows. An SOC has a varied number and variety of functional blocks in it, due to which it is given that name.

Coming to the flow: ASIC and FPGA Flows do not differ with respect to the front end design and verification.

They differ only in the back end design. In ASIC and FPGA the basic steps in the flow do not much differ except for the tools and resources used. You can refer to ASIC book by John Sebastin Smith for more information.

fpga is a pragrammable device for prototype your design, asic is a dedicate chip implementing your design, soc is a system on a chip.

U can thisk FPGA is a rapid ASIC, for it miss many DFT, DFM, DFY issue which are pre-fixed by the vendor. U just focus on Ur design.
SOC, huge design age's produce, not many differents, but u should care about the internal bus speed, topologic, and sleep/wakeup mode for mcu.
