A reflective switch is one in which the incident power at the “off” port is reflected back to the source as a result of the impedance mismatch presented at its input.
The non-reflective switch is designed to present a 50-ohm impedance in the “off” state, and to absorb incident power.
Usually the reflective switch has higher power capabilities but poor frequency characteristics compared to non-reflective ones.
A non-reflective switch is good for applications that require minimum reflections back to the RF source.
If isolation is important, a non-reflective switch typically exceeds the the reflective. If the energy does not have a defined place to go, it will go somewhere else, some of that may be undesired.
