Hi...

Do we have to follow additional design constrains for component layout and Trace routing if we are using a pick and place machine for assembly.

Thanks

Hi,

You need to take care placement of components, subsequently routing will fall into the places, for more information on spacing between the components, you can get that from the Assembler, they can guide/assist you on this matter.

Refer some Dfa articles beforehand, beside this check this site for an feel of it,

Thank you very much.....

I have one more doubt....Before we start routing we FIX and Lock the component placement positions ..rt?
So what are the considerations/trade offs/parameters that we take see before we plan the component placements in the layout...Also do we in any case change the position of the components (non critical) while we are routing....say if we feel the trace length will be lesser /trace will be less complicated if we relocate or rotate component.
IF i do that will i have to get approval for the placement again from the customer??

Please help.....

Hi,

Well, before going ahead with routing make a practise to send it the customer for
approval, thats what i was doin while working for an service oriented company.

Assume, your done with some percent of routing and then customer comes to you ask for some change in placement, then it will jeopardise the entire process.

if your working for an service oriented company, then always send a rough placement to customer for approval, ask him is the placement is ok to goahead with routing.
But then again, if there is change in the placement after routing(some percentage) from the customer side,it will be mandatory for you to do the changes for which you going to rise the bill, its all tradeoff tactics:D

Warm Regards

Ramesh
