significance of rms voltage

i want to know that what is difference between the rms voltage/current quantity & avg voltage/current quantity. what is importance of rms term?

significance of rms value

well if u find the average value of current or voltage of a ac quantity u would notice that it is zero and using that to calculate power makes no sense... rms value is a quantity used to quantify ac quantities.....

what is the significance of rms voltage

rms values represent the energy available
while average are 0Hz(DC) value.

significance of rms

smartshashi,
The RMS value is the voltage in a purely resistive load that results in the same power (Heating effect) as a DC voltage of the same value. For example, a sine wave with a peak voltage of 1.0V. produces the same power into a resistive load as a DC voltage of (SQRT(2))/2 volts. So the RMS vlaue of this AC voltage is (SQRT(2)/2 volts = .707106..... The average value of the same AC waveform is [2/PI] = .6366..., which is less than the RMS value.
.
For a square wave, the peak, average and RMS values are equal.

rms voltage , significance

when replacing dc source with a dc value equivalent to the rms of an ac source in a circuit, equivalent power will results. Helps in analysis.

hope it helps u out

importance of rms value

rms gives u the effective value or dc value of ac signal

significance rms voltage

rMS value is the amount of DC volatage required to transfer the same charge across the ckt. as that transferred by equivalent DC source.

significant of rms voltage

Hi...

As was stated very precisely by Kral, The RMS value of a signal is the amount of equivalent DC signal which has equivalent heating effects. The term "signal" may refer to either voltage or current.

Regards!

significance rms value

rms value is the equivalent dc value of an ac quantity

square wave rms voltage calculation

hi,

The rms value of a periodic voltage/current is a constant value that will produce the same power in a resistor as is produced on the average by the periodic current/voltage.
