hi everyone
plz tell me when to use UCF and when to use XCF....i m lil confused between these two files....
can all constraints supported by UCF are also supported in XCF n vice versa...

UCF vs XCF

(The question pertains to constraint files in Xilinx ISE.)

I haven't used XCF, however I noticed that XCF doesn't support all constraints, but it has other advantages over UCF. See section "XST Constraint File (XCF)" in your XST User Guide, and the "Constraints Entry Table" in your Constraints Guide. These online manual pages look similar, probably for ISE 8.x:

can u plz tell me when actually do we use XCF ... (when compared to UCF)...

i've read in many documents tht we can make some changes in XCF but when i try to find out XCF file ...no such file exists in my synthesis folders...do we need to manually add XCF....
plz explain diff bet these two types of files n when to use which ....

UCF vs XCF

This page looks helpful, but it's still not clear why Xilinx created both UCF and XCF:

I normally use UCF, or constraints embedded into my HDL. I haven't needed XCF. Xilinx's example projects generally use UCF.
