Why Proteus for PIC?

proteus pic

Hi

I see a lot of discussion about Proteus.

I know or I think, it is a simulator or some special capabilities.

What is its speciality? What it can do better than MPLAB in case of PIC?


Or in general terms what is its advantage for a MCU user?

proteus can do both the pic and the external components simulation... analog and digital
mplab do only the pic.

other side mplab programs the pic, proteus dont.

How is its PCB designing part? Good?

Presently I am using orcad.

Is Proteus a good solution for my schematic drawing , pcb design , circuit as well as MCU simulation?

How you compare Orcad PCB tools with Proteus?

orcad vs proteus

I would say that one software could not be compared to another.
However, for the sake of discussion Proteus VSM apart from schematics and simulation is equally good in PCB Layouts.
An excellent set of libraries and good auto placement and auto routing components.
Then again download a demo version and try out for yourself.

I was not trying to initiate a discussion like xxx better than xxx. But for certain specific areas some tools are having good options.

I was trying to collect input on such aspects.

For example

My application is not multilayer large pcbs with BGA type sockets and all. I do small boards with DIP or SMD components only. So defenitly I may find it easy to use if I could locate a layout programe with such users in mind. I always felt orcad is a heavy weapon for my purpose.

Will try on demo. If I can get some inputs from users it may save some time.

I tried orcad some years ago and it's a huge gas machine compared to proteus...
proteus is integrated, easy, and it seems the new version 7 is more easy but I didnt try it myself.
the only drawback is the price, but for professionnal use it's worth the money no problem.
I only have wished they had a student version with a small price for hobby use also. a single person cannot afford a such software.

i used the proteus to simulate and it s quite easy and nice, i think the pcb design part of it is easy too

personally, i 'ld prefer to use proteus.

but if you are used to ORCAD why you want to change ?

Best solution, give proteus a try :D
