remote control for motorized domestic curtain

Hi there I would like to build a remote controled curtain.
I need a starting point.
1) electrical part (remote controller) which system to use
2) mechanical which motor to use? stepper is precise but needs more circuitry . dc not precise

The purpose is to make it as small as possible
thanks

You need to have one RF transmitter and a receiver. You need to have a small circuit in the motor controll side. You will send two different signal to open and clouse. The microcontroller in the side of the motor controll will also look the position of the curtain using two sensors.

I know the block diagrams for each part.
My question is which tx Rx to use and which typr of motor
Not the microcontroller and how the system works
by the way Thanks

A similar project was printed in the magazine Circuit Cellar. You can search their archives to see if it is available on line. www.circellar.com
As I recall, the author used the X10 protocol and modules to control the curtains or blinds. I think the really tricky bit was the mechanical piece.

If line of sight opperation is fine, "havesting" an old VCR/TV can solve the remote control part easily.

Cheers

You can find out the RF remote control open/close garage door system to study how it works and controls.
Then buy a set of similar RF remote control for your purpose.

Yes the the problem is the mechanical parts
the control part is easy.

Turn on a transistor with your remote control.

This in turn, turns on a small motor which will have a small cog, turning a bigger cog which has a roller attached to it, this has the curtain string turned around it.
It goes one way to open, the other to close.

The curtain string is in a big loop, from a roller in the middle of the curtains, back through loops to the motor/roller, then back out to the middle again.

Thats for a domestic house curtain, if your after a more heavy duty theatre type then it's most likely completely different.

The whole curtain track "must" be clean & smooth flowing.

Try having a look at curtain track manufacturers online for pictures?

Hello Pakitos,

Do you want to control a car curtain or a home one??

I suggest to use an infrared system.

Have a nice day/ night :)
