What is the difference between conventional full wave rectifier and bridge rectifier?

The peaki inverse voltage in the full wave rectifier should be double the value of the bridge rectifier as it has to sustain double the voltage rating...........

Any other reason why majority of the circuits contain the bridge rectifier
except the PIV.

Other Reason is that Full wave rectifier Needs a Center-Tapped (Three outputs) Transformer whitch is more expensive than the common one needs for the bridge rectifier.

I dont remember effieciency also will come into picture...

electronics by Sarkar one small book is there. I have read in that.. If u have that book pls refer to that book............

What do you mean "conventional full wave rectifier"?

I suppose you mean the rectifier combined with the transformer secondary winding with centered tap, right? (since there is no more circuit for full wave rectifier). I will call them CR and BR for short.

So, the differences are:
- CR needs only 2 diodes while BR needs 4 diodes.
- So the voltage drop on the rectifier in CR case is smaller (1 diode drop = #0.7V) than BR case (2 diode drops = #1.4V). This is very important and must be paid attention when you use a low voltage system.
- The reverse voltage applied on each diode in BR case is half of the CR one. You should pay attention on this when you use a high voltage system.
- BR needs the transformer with only 1 secondary winding with no centered tap while CR needs centered tap. So the transformer for BR is cheaper and is used with the higher efficiency as the 2 winding halves in CR case are never symmetrical and only always conduct DC currents that makes transformer efficiency lower.
- Transformer with centered tap winding is more expensive.
- Designing rectifier in BR circuit will help you find out ready-made transformer much more easilier than designing CR one.

also FW-needs 2 diodes while bridge need 4 diods and so brideg is also expensive compare to full wave
