[/b]can anyone send any link that contains all the details about assigning a waveport in ansoft hfss 9.2, and what are the relative parameters while defining the waveport of the design. am working on a microstrip, and changing the dimensions (height and width) of waveport changes all the results(s parameters). so can anyone sugest the way to defie the waveport to get the optimum results.

Hey Deepak,
If you know the impedance of the transmission line you are exciting, you can draw the port and do a port only simulation to see if the impedance of the port is right.. For a microstrip and using a waveport, if I am not wrong, the thum rules are..

1. The waveport should be centered along your line (at the line edge) and extend from the ground plane up to about 5 times the thickness of your substrate.

2. The width of the port ususally is about 4 times the width of the Tline..

3. You have to define a integration line from the srip to the ground.

Do a port only simulation and see that the impedances match up...

let me know if you have further problems. You could also search for port tutorials here on the forum. I'm sure you'll find it here.

Ananth.

thanks a lot ananth i will try this method and keep all ur rules in my mind.
