I am looking for switch-mode PSU based on TL494 IC.
The requirement is 13.8V @ 15A or higher.
I saw someone on the net use old PC AT PSU and rip-it up and make PSU out of it!
Is this safe? That beast have around 400V at several Amps on the Primary-side and could cause.. you know what.
Anyone hv built or design one (safely) pls share it in this post.

Thanks!

tl494 psu

The "modified" PC-AT power supply can be as safe as one you may buid from scratches by yourself ..
I don't see any reason why you couldn't do the same and save yourself a lot of design and construction work ..

Hi
look at the schematic below, More info is available on the net.
High voltage available in the card. Please be careful of electric shock.

tl494 + schematic

Thanks guys,
Anyway I need the 13.8VDC SMPS circuit which can deliver high current (>10A) to be used in the workshop. I intend to 'modify' the PC power supply because they are cheap and readily available.
I found one article which 'rip--up' an AT PSU and convert it to13.8V 20A power supply!
However it involves re-winding of the op transformer.
Pls take a look at the schematics and give your comment.
I post it here to share with everybody.
