I dont understand your question, but if you want learn about robotic, you should read "Robotics" by Fu. Or "Robotica" by Anibal Ollero, the problem with last book was writed in spanish.
as far as am conserned, if u want to make a chess playing robot as a simple one it will not be efficient...u can find a lot on web...if u ask my suggestion try a line following robot..i think u can finish it within a day...if u r good in debugging
