I am looking for a PIC controller that has 3 inputs (min) and 10 outputs. Can anyone help with a part number?

Dear Skorper,

It shows from your question that you are new to microcontrollers... am I right!!
If so, I advice you to start with PIC16F84A. it is available in the market and has 13 I/O pins. PIC16F628 and PIC16F88 have the same number of I/O pins, but they are more complex.

PIC 16F84A is the best MCU to start with.

By the way, the letter 'F' in PIC16F84A stands for flash, which means you can re-program many times.

Regards.

ccp module for pic controller

Hi,
Sorry, I don't intend to be rude, but

Dear Alphastar,
It shows from your answer, that you, yourself, are new to microcontrollers.

This is complete rubish:
If so, I advice you to start with PIC16F84A. it is available in the market and has 13 I/O pins. PIC16F628 and PIC16F88 have the same number of I/O pins, but they are more complex.

PIC 16F84A is the best MCU to start with.

The PIC 16F84A is OBSOLETE. It has only 1k of program memory, 68 bytes of RAM, and 64 bytes data EEPROM.
The 16F84A is also lacking a lot of hardware the other chips have. It has no UART, and only one 8 bit timer. There are no AD converters.
As well, the price of the f84 is about DOUBLE the price of the others!

The 16F88 has 4k program memory, 368 bytes of RAM, 256 bytes data EEPROM.
The F88 has a 7 channel 10bit AD converter, 2 x 8 bit and 1 x 16 bit timer, a USART as well as a SSP, and a PWM/CCP module. In addition it has a very accurate internal RC oscillator.

The PIC 16F628 has 2k program flash, 224 bytes RAM, and 128 bytes data EEPROM.
It has 2 8 bit and 1 16 bit timer, 2 analog comparators, a PWM/CCP module, and a USART. In addition it has a very accurate internal RC oscillator.

On the prices, I just looked at
https://www.futurlec.com/ICMicrochip_PIC16.shtml

The 16F84A @ 4MHz is $3.50 and @ 20MHz is $4.90
The 16F88 @ 20 MHz is $3.90
The 16F628A @ 20MHz is $2.20

Looks to me, that the 16F628A is the part to start!

Regards,
Robert

Dear Beepop,

Thank you for passing by, and thank you for the information you list and the comparision you gave about the PIC16F84A and PIC16F88.

For beginners, it is always better to stat with the simplest items. even if it is more expensive (we are talking about only 2 Dollars difference here).

I will just give you an example: isn't easier for beginners to start with PIC16F84A which has a manual of 68 pages, rather than the PIC16F628 that has 180 pages manual or the PIC16F88 with a manual of 214 Pages?

anyway, everyone has his own opinion and I respect yours. after all, it is up to our friend skorper to start where to start from.

Regards.

Hi Alphastar,

Thanks for taking it so well.

Yes, you do have a point about only a couple of bux extra, and I've never cheeped out on buying parts myself. However, the newer PICs are no more difficult to use than the F84, and the extra pages in the data sheets are just related to the other features. A beginner can just read what they need.

Have you tried the newer chips yourself? If you haven't you should, and you would find them just as easy to use as the f84s.

Yes, it is up to Skorper, I just wanted to make him aware of the other choices.

Best wishes,
Robert

best pic chip 16f628 16f690

im new to pic but i have directly started with 16f628a. i have not finished reading with the datasheets but i think its not that difficult. and also there is help available from members like u.thanks guys

pic16f88 and pic16f628

pic 16f690 is the best choice. it has a 20 pins pakage with 18 I/O pins. best for many aplication.

All or your inputs are valuable to me. They give me direction. I bought 10 16F84A chips from MicroChip (their minimum order), so I think that I will destroy a few of these first before I purchase a newer/better one. I hope that all the commands will transfer (approximately).
With all of your expertise here, I am confident about tackling other devices.:D
