how to make a 12v dc to 5v dc simple circuit design

i encounter a problem of designing a circuit that can convert 12v dc to 5v dc supply, is there any one can help me ???
 

This is the typical application for LDO. u can search it. there are a lot of material about LDO
 

The simplest thing to do is to use an 7805 voltage regulator:
Vin from 8 to 35V
Vout = 5V see picture below ..

LM317 is also a good choise.
 
There are a lot of choices from very simple (resistor divider or zener diod reference) to complex step down switching regulators. The essential question is how much current (and/or power) you need at 5V side. Reply please.

The designer needs to clarify the current ratings of source and load .
ex: say 10amps load , none of the suggested solutions seem feasible .
For glitches /ripple at input /pulsed loads ,special design are needed.
