I need a simple circuit which has to limit current to micromotor in both directions.
The motor is supplied +/- for cw and -/+ for CCW but I must limit current (40mA)when it riches left and right limits. Supply voltage is 12V and is not important.

Bi-directional current limit can be realized with 4 diodes and a 3-pin voltage regulator in constant current configuration .. see picture below ..
Resistor R has to be selected as required ..

IanP

HI DEAR,

The MAX5944 operates over the 7.5V to 37V input range and provides inrush and output current limit in addition to diode ORing functions suitable for FireWire applications.
The MAX5944 allows the safe insertion and removal of FireWire peripherals into a live FireWire port by providing inrush current control and output current-limiting functions. The MAX5944 features a current-limit function that actively limits the current drawn by the load with a 2ms timeout. Its autoretry function then automatically restarts after the 259ms autoretry delay time.

Hi IanP
Thank you very much for your help and circuit.
What type of diodes can I use: 1N4001 is OK?
Tx

Any diode rated for If>50mA and Vrrm>>Vccmax will do ..
1N4001-4007 are 1A diodes and will work well ..

Regards,
IanP
